Usually, it's the losers who are in disarray. But after the angry exit of Aimee, Kinetic seemed oddly unified, if only in their disdain for their now departed project manager. Kristine jokingly asked Derek, "Did she give you the eyes of death?" Derek nodded in agreement, later adding, "She gave me the look of the devil." When discussing who would be the team's next PM, Jenn stepped up to the plate. "I felt if I was ever going to earn the respect of my team, that I needed to do it now," she said. Meanwhile, Arrow seemed divided even in victory, with James, Tim and Frank powwowing about how they couldn't let PM Surya drag them down. Frank suggested some kind of takeover, but cooler heads prevailed with James warning, "Dude, a revolution is a very risky move at this time." Mr. Trump gathered the unsettled squads on Rodeo Drive, the ultimate high-end shopping destination in Beverly Hills, where he assigned them the task of promoting the new Lexus 460 luxury sedan, a car so cool it can parallel park itself. With past Apprentice winner Randal filling in for Ivanka as the mogul's eyes and ears, Trump and Lexus execs dispatched the teams to create promotional celebrations for the slick ride, with the winners to be judged by event attendees. As Arrow's brainstorming session began, PM Surya went whiteboard crazy, covering the walls of the meeting room with massive amounts of verbiage, which he saw as vital to the task. As Surya scribbled, the rest of Arrow ignored or mocked him. Stefani and Frank took the initiative and began making calls to organize Arrow's event. But Surya wasn't the only one missing in action. James was worried about lovey-dovey Tim and Nicole, who were enjoying each other's company perhaps too much. "Tim and Nicole's relationship is making them soft," he said. During the event, however, things came together well, even though project manager Surya felt out of the loop because Frank and Stefani had handled the logistics of the event. "I'm flying a little bit blind and that's frustrating--to not be in total control," Surya said. But except for a few technical glitches when the demo car's battery died, Arrow's promotion went off fairly well. Things were vastly different for Kinetic, however. When Kinetic chose a "magical" theme, "The Sixth Sense of Luxury," you could almost see dead people--or at least people who would soon be in the boardroom. The team continued digging its own grave when creative-group leader Angela came up blank for three hours. At that point, Derek began brainstorming to get things rolling and threw out the campy, counterintuitive idea of using go-carts. With no other ideas forthcoming, PM Jenn latched onto that notion and the team reluctantly rolled with it. While Heidi and Muna gathered technical info on the car and much of the rest of the team set up the venue, Angela and Derek created the signage. But after Angela missed the graphics deadline, only half of the signs ordered could be produced. At the event, problems continued with Jenn's opening presentation going poorly due to monitor glare. The go-carts proved to be a popular diversion, though whether they were on-message for the high-end Lexus brand was very much in doubt. Back in the boardroom, Randal read the event attendees' comments. Kinetic's disorganized and down-market affair rated an 84 while Arrow's elite and informative event scored a 94. For their reward, Trump sent Arrow to jam in the studio with superstar rapper/producer Snoop Dogg. Trump got into the spirit of things by praising his homey Snoop as an intelligent businessman, "Fo' Shizzle." On the mic, Frank and James lacked "mad skillz" but compensated with sheer enthusiasm. While Arrow was rapping in the studio, Kinetic was getting a bad rap in the boardroom for their loss. |
